Samir Kumar
Co-Founder & General Partner
Samir is a Co-Founder and General Partner at Touring Capital, where he backs technically ambitious founders building the next generation of AI and deep technology companies. He serves on Touring’s Investment Committee and on the boards of Parasail and Nymbo. He also led Touring’s investments in Cusp, Infinity, Workbench and Skyfall.
Prior to co-founding Touring, Samir was a Managing Partner at M12, Microsoft’s venture capital arm, where he led investments across horizontal and vertical AI, deep technology, and hardware-enabled software. His notable investments include Applied Intuition, PsiQuantum, Wandelbots, Syntiant, d-Matrix, Regrow, and Netradyne. Earlier in his career, Samir held senior product and strategic business development roles at Qualcomm, Samsung, and Microsoft. His fascination with neural networks sparked a passion for AI that ultimately led him from technology operating roles into venture capital. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
Born in New Delhi and raised in New York, Samir grew up captivated by the futuristic possibilities of Star Trek — an early obsession that continues to shape his worldview as a technologist and investor. He’s particularly drawn to founders with bold technical visions and the potential to fundamentally reshape how the world works.
Outside of work, Samir can usually be found exploring the latest research in AI and science, indulging his love for electronic music (an enthusiasm apparently shared by his young daughter), or dabbling in flight simulation and amateur astronomy.
